The song cycle "The Love in Life" (1870) contains some of Peter Benoit's most famous songs. The two other cycles (1872) are autobiographical: "From Henriètte's Album" with the unusually modern sounding 'Afscheidssonata'I and "Liefdedrama", a poignant human document, written in an advanced tone and with a strong inner inspiration. An unknown Benoit, but certainly an absolute highlight in his oeuvre.
